Alterations And Additions To An Existing Residence

Builder: Intent Building

Sitting in a quiet, cul-de-sac, this existing two-story home enjoyed the lovely views of the Long Gully Bridge. The client brief was to upgrade the existing amenities and to give the house a facelift. One of the main issues was the luck of solar access, the existing building self-shadowed over its back yard and the northern windows were not exposed enough. The need was to somehow open out the house to the north.  The local regulations were no longer permitting a roof top terrace. Nevertheless, it was proven required and based on merit, a new northern terrace was approved to be built on top of the carport structure. The new addition included a new front gable, to enhance the federation character of the original house, new bathrooms and walk in robs were added to the existing first floor bedrooms creating a master-suite and a teenager-suite, providing privacy for each of the occupants while a joint study is presented between them. Few changes in the ground floor allowed for the kitchen to be connected to the outdoor area. A strong connection between the northern terrace and the back yard was created which changed dramatically the atmosphere in the house from dark and cold to light and airy.
